Product Information Management (PIM) is the core of Nexera. It provides a single source of truth for all product data in your organisation, from basic fields like name and SKU to rich multilingual descriptions, pricing tiers, variant matrices, and custom attributes.
Every piece of product data you enter in Nexera flows downstream to connected channels. When you update a description in Nexera, the change can be pushed to Shopify, exported to a CSV feed, or surfaced in your customer portal without re-entering the data anywhere else.
The Products section supports three statuses that control visibility and sync behaviour:
Draft: the product is being prepared and is not visible in Shopify or the customer portal. This is the default status for new products.
Active: the product is live and eligible for sync, export, and portal visibility.
Archived: the product is hidden from active views but not deleted. Archived products can be restored at any time.
Use the search bar and filters at the top of the Products page to quickly find products by name, SKU, status, category, or brand. The list supports pagination for workspaces with thousands of items.
Click New Product on the Products page to open the creation form. The form is divided into sections for core data, content, pricing, and media.
Required fields:
Name: the primary product title displayed across all channels.
SKU: a unique stock-keeping unit identifier. Nexera uses the SKU for matching during imports, asset auto-linking, and Shopify sync.
Optional fields:
EAN / Barcode: the European Article Number or UPC barcode. When you enter a valid EAN, Nexera can look up the product in public barcode databases and auto-fill basic product data like name, brand, and category.
Brand: select from your brand list or create a new brand inline.
Category: assign the product to a category in your hierarchy.
Description: a rich-text product description with formatting support.
Price & Currency: base price in your default currency (EUR).
EAN barcode lookup
Enter a valid EAN-13 barcode in the EAN field and Nexera will attempt to auto-fill product data from public databases. This is especially useful when onboarding products from a supplier catalogue, it saves time on data entry and reduces errors.
You can also create products by duplicating an existing one. Open any product, click the three-dot menu, and select Duplicate. The new product copies all fields except the SKU, which you must change to maintain uniqueness.
Open any product by clicking its name in the product list. The product detail page provides inline editing for all fields, click a field to edit it, and changes are saved automatically when you move to the next field.
The rich-text description editor supports headings, bold, italic, bullet lists, numbered lists, and links. Formatting is preserved when the description is synced to Shopify as HTML.
Key editing features:
Field-level saves: each field is saved independently when you finish editing, so you never lose partial changes.
Autosave indicator: a small status badge next to the product title shows whether the product has unsaved changes, is saving, or is up to date.
Change history: every edit is logged in the audit trail with the user who made the change, the timestamp, and the before / after values.
Status transitions: change the product status using the dropdown at the top of the page. Moving a product from Draft to Active makes it eligible for sync and portal visibility.
Concurrent editing
When two team members edit the same product simultaneously, Nexera detects the conflict and preserves both versions. The last save wins for each individual field, and the full change history is always available in the audit log.
Nexera supports product content in three languages out of the box: Dutch (NL), German (DE), and English (EN). Each language has its own tab in the product editor with independent fields for title, description, and SEO metadata.
The tab-based editor lets you switch between languages quickly and see at a glance which languages have content filled in. An indicator on each tab shows whether that language version is complete, partial, or empty.
Working with multilingual content:
Primary language: choose which language is your primary data entry language in Settings. Content entered in the primary language can be used as the source for AI translations.
AI translation: click the translate button on any language tab to automatically translate content from another language. The AI preserves formatting, brand terminology, and tone.
Independent editing: each language version can be edited independently. Translations do not overwrite manual edits unless you explicitly regenerate them.
Language mapping: when syncing to Shopify, map each Nexera language to a Shopify market or locale so the right content reaches the right audience.
Consistent brand terminology
AI translations preserve your brand voice when you use custom templates. Set up a glossary of key terms in your brand voice template (e.g. "Waterproof" should always be "Waterdicht" in Dutch, not "Waterbestendig") to ensure consistent terminology across all languages.
Many products come in multiple variations, sizes, colours, materials, or any combination of these. Nexera's variant system lets you define variant options at the product level and then create individual variant records for each combination.
Variant options you can define:
Size: e.g. XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL or numeric sizes like 38, 40, 42.
Colour: e.g. Black, Navy, Forest Green. Colours can include a hex value for visual display.
Material: e.g. Cotton, Polyester, Gore-Tex.
Custom options: define any additional option type that fits your product line.
Each variant record has its own:
SKU: a unique identifier for the specific variant (e.g. APJ-001-BLK-M for Alpine Pro Jacket, Black, Medium).
Price: variants can have different prices from the base product.
Stock quantity: track inventory per variant.
Barcode (EAN): unique barcode per variant for warehouse scanning.
Weight & dimensions: for shipping calculations.
When you sync to Shopify, Nexera maps each variant to a Shopify product variant with matching option values. New variants are created automatically, and removed variants can be archived or deleted based on your sync settings.
Not every product fits into the same data model. Nexera lets you create custom attributes to capture any additional product information your business needs, from technical specifications to compliance certifications.
Supported attribute types:
Text: free-form text input for specifications like "Water Column Rating: 10,000mm".
Number: numeric values with optional units (e.g. weight in grams, voltage, capacity).
Select: single-choice dropdown from a predefined list of options (e.g. Season: Spring/Summer, Autumn/Winter).
Multi-select: multiple choices from a predefined list (e.g. Certifications: OEKO-TEX, GOTS, Bluesign).
Boolean: yes/no toggle for flags like "Waterproof", "Organic", or "Clearance".
Custom attributes are scoped per tenant, so each workspace can define its own set of attributes without affecting other tenants. Attributes appear in the product editor, are included in exports, and can be mapped to Shopify metafields during sync.
To create a custom attribute, go to Settings → Attributes and click New Attribute. Give it a name, choose the type, and optionally set a default value. The attribute immediately becomes available on all products in your workspace.
Organise your product catalogue with a hierarchical category tree and a flat brand list. These structures help you filter, group, and report on products, and they map directly to Shopify collections and vendor fields during sync.
Categories form a tree hierarchy, for example, Clothing → Jackets → Ski Jackets. Each product belongs to exactly one category. Nest categories up to five levels deep to create a granular taxonomy that matches your e-commerce navigation.
To manage categories, go to Settings → Categories. Drag and drop to reorder or nest categories. Deleting a category does not delete its products, they become uncategorised.
Brands are a flat list of manufacturers or labels that you carry in your catalogue. Each product can belong to one brand. Brands are useful for filtering in the product list, generating brand-specific exports, and mapping to the Shopify vendor field.
Create and manage brands from Settings → Brands. Each brand can have a name, logo, and description. Brand logos are displayed in the product list for quick visual identification.
Shopify mapping
During Shopify sync, Nexera maps categories to Shopify product types and brands to the Shopify vendor field. You can customise this mapping in the store's field mapping configuration.
When you need to add or update many products at once, the bulk import feature is the fastest path. Nexera supports imports from CSV and JSON files with an interactive field mapping wizard.
Prepare your file: Create a CSV or JSON file with your product data. At minimum, include columns for product name and SKU. Additional columns can include EAN, brand, category, descriptions, pricing, and custom attributes.
Upload the file: Go to Products and click Import. Drag and drop your file or click to browse. Nexera auto-detects the file format and previews the first few rows.
Map your fields: The field mapping wizard shows each column in your file and lets you map it to a Nexera field. Nexera attempts to auto-match columns by header name. Review the mappings and adjust as needed.
Review and confirm: Preview how many new products will be created and how many existing products will be updated (matched by SKU or EAN). Duplicate detection highlights potential conflicts before they happen.
Run the import: Click Import to start the background job. You can track progress in the notification panel. Large imports (10,000+ products) may take a few minutes.
Update existing products
The import system also supports updating existing products. When an imported row matches an existing product by SKU, Nexera updates the existing record instead of creating a duplicate. Only non-empty fields in the import file overwrite existing data.
You can download a template CSV from the import dialog to see the expected column format. The template includes headers for all standard fields and any custom attributes defined in your workspace.
